This technical help article is for Installers & Partners who has extended service permissions to Add installations in ZAPTEC Portal cloud solution based on permission added to their User profile. The ZAPTEC Portal installation is a virtual installation in order to balance load and phase algorithms in the charging system, this ensures that the available energy is fully utilised based on active charging without reserving "static" charging current to each individual charging station not in use.
Important information
All load- and phase balancing occurs in ZAPTEC Portal cloud solution, so all the charging system needs is an internet connection.
The installation in the ZAPTEC Portal cloud solution must represent the physical installation at the location.
If the installation in ZAPTEC Portal is not setup according to the physical electrical installation at the location; protection breaker may trip, warnings & charge faults and/or cause unexpected charging behaviour.
Please contact your ZAPTEC’s Sales representative or by use of this form to forward your request to our Sales team. In order to receive service authorisation registered to your company.
Your company will then be able to administrate which Users in your company shall have access to Add & view installations in your company in ZAPTEC Portal.
Please contact your colleague which controls User permission for your Company service user group.
Once added, your User profile will be able to add, Manage & View installations in ZAPTEC Portal.

- Select Electrical Grid type & with amount of phases installed (1 or 3-phase)
- Electrical Grid must match what the charging stations measures of supply voltage
- Charging system
circuit breaker (A) - This value represents the top of the hiarchi, and is the max constraint of the allowed simultaneous charging current in the system.
- This could be a fictive value, value of the physical overload protection or the power switch.
- If circuits with charging stations are located & installed on a separate distribution cabinets/panels/supplies, then add installation for each.
- Press Add
to complete the registration details for the new installation If you have installation specific details, enter details in Notes. Then press Save, to update Notes.
You can add information in Notes (Optional)
How to add Circuit in the installation
After you have created the installation in the ZAPTEC Portal cloud solution, create circuits in accordance with the electrical installation on the location.
- Select the Circuits tab
- Enter Circuit name
Circuit designation as stated in the fuse cabinet
- Enter Circuit breaker [A]
State the value [A] for the installed upstream overcurrent protection breaker
You can reduce the value [A] to avoid fully loading the upstream overcurrent protection breakerImportant
The input value for overcurrent protection breaker must not exceed the electrical upstream protection breaker value.
The maximum supply current rating which supplies the backplates & charging stations are listed in the Product documentation.
These supply current rating and maximum upstream overcurrent protection breaker requirements must be met.See the Documentation section for the applicable product
- Press Save
to add the Circuit to the installation
Optional steps:
- To add additional Circuits for the installation
follow step 2 to 4 in the step-by-step instructions above. - To edit Circuit
select the Circuit and press to Edit Circuit name and/or value [A] - To deactivate a Circuit
select the Circuit and press to deactivate the applicable CircuitWarning
Deactivation of Circuit must not be performed if Charging station(s) are added in the Circuit.
This causes the Charging station serial number to become unavailable & reserved in ZAPTEC Portal. If this has occurred and you need assistance: Please contact
ZAPTEC Technical Support and provide the Installation name & serial numbers of the charging stations to get technical assistance.
Useful information and explanation of terms used
after the vehicle has disconnected from the charging station.
The physical charging stations have a redundant local memory storage for charge consumption (limited storage capacity).
which will be uploaded, stored and available in ZAPTEC Portal in case charging station is without internet connection to ZAPTEC Portal
The charge point is used as a placeholder for charge consumption and permission, in case the physical charging station is replaced or removed from the installation (digitally & physical).
This ensures that all charge consumption & permission are present & available independently of which physical charging station is associated to the Charge point.
How to add Charge points with Charging stations in Circuits
- Select the Circuit to add the associated charging station(s) in.
- Select Add (below the Circuit current graph)
- Enter Serial number of the charging station
Serial number is available under the charging station
- Enter Name of the charge point
Best practice of designated name of charging station is to use a name that does not change:
- Apartment number
- Parking space number
- Other physical identification for the exact location
Avoid using names such as: 1, 2, 3 or the actual names of the charging station user and/or owner.
- Press Add
Optional steps: If adding additional charging stations in the same Circuit
- By checking Add more, you can continue to add additional charging stations.
- Once completed with Adding charging stations, select to navigate back Circuit overview.
- Additional Charge points with Charging stations will now be visible in the applicable Circuit overview
-
Edit Charging station
Select
To enter the Charging stations settings
Show or Hide deactivated Charging points and/or stations
- Check of Show deactivated charge points located in the lower left corner
- Deactivated Charging point and/or stations are now visible

If the charging station has not been configured with ZAPTEC App previously. Then it still may appear online if the 4G LTE-M subscription is active.
Add User permission for the installation and/or charging station
Before start of charging
After all functional tests and documentation has been performed, and the charging system is ready to be used.
It is good practice to add Users with permissions to the installation and/or Charging stations.
This ensures that the designated charging system owner and/or Facility Manager has permission to perform User management in the installation.
